Saturday 15th November -12 noon
This is a Special BH3 Christmas Charity Hash.

We are holding it to help raise much needed funds for , they provide support for life limited children & their families in & around the Birmingham & Worcester area.

Please help us, to help them
, to have their best Christmas ever.

This will be a No-Cost charity run!

All we ask is that rather than paying the normal £2 Hash fund, you bring with you as a donation, at least 1 Toy or game that is in a good workable condition.

Obviously, if you want to, you can bring a lot more! Why not have a look in your loft & have a clear out - make room for all of the new toys that you will buy this year.

To help with the festive fun (& publicity) could you also come in
Fancy Dress (click for a laugh!) it doesn't need to be too elaborate, however it does need to be of a Christmas Theme.

There will be a prize for the person with the best fancy dress.

We want to make this a high publicity Hash to give more exposure to Acorns (& also BH3), so get as many of your friends, relatives & colleagues to come along as well.

Don't be shy - let everyone you know what you are doing, why not ask for donations - remember you are not asking for money! You are just helping people, to help more people, so everyone wins in the end.

If you want a poster to put up at work please e-mail Geoff ASAP.

The hash will be a vey flat route & relatively shiggy free, so ideal for virgin hashers - literally a stroll in the park, compared to the last Shirley Hash!

It's going to be another amazing hash - all the usual excitement & fun with a seasonal surprise (or 2)!

Donate without Hashing!

If you cannot make the Hash you can still donate your toys (& other things!) to Acorns, just take them into your nearest Acorns Charity Shop (click here to find yours). Label your bags with BH3 so they know it's a Birmingham Hash House Harriers donation.

POSTER - print off a poster to put up at work!

Details for the day (15th November)

WHERE TO MEET & HOW TO GET THERE:

NB Click on photos for larger image.

The Hash starts from The Drawbridge Pub in Majors Green (Map) at 12 noon on Saturday November 15th, as soon as all runners are present & Hash signs have been displayed & understood!

Due to the often congested car park at the Railway Station we recommend that everyone meets at the pub (see below), a hare will be at the Station at 11.58 to round up any straggler hounds & mush them down to the start.

The
pub is a 5 minute walk out of the station, turn right & down the hill & round the bend (Haslucks Green Road) from Shirley Railway Station (see times below) or a 5 minute walk round the bend from Whitlocks End Railway Station.

Here are some details to help you get to the Out of Africa Hash.

TRAIN. (Sorry - Steam Trains only run on Sundays) Trains at Shirley Railway Station (Map) at 11.50 am on Saturday 13th September.  The latest train to catch is the 11.30 from Moor Street (11.27 from Snow Hill) arrives at Shirley 11.46. Shirley is on the Stratford Upon Avon Line. For full timetable enquiries - Click Here

BUS. There are various buses from the City Centre (& other parts of Birmingham) that terminate at Shirley Railway Station (Map). The number 12 departs every 12 minutes from Corporation Street in Birmingham City Centre & arrives at Shirley approx 40 minutes later (exactly 40 minutes later if Martin is driving as he's the best!).
Other buses that stop at the Station:
49 - Northfield/Solihull
69 - Weoley Castle/Solihull
A Harding's Coaches bus (175) comes from Redditch to Solihull, stopping at Shirley Station (arriving at 11.32), only 4 a day though.

CAR. (Map) Good access from the M42, use junction 3 if coming from the South. Use junction 4 if coming from the North. From Birmingham use the A34 Stratford Road then turn right on to Haslucks Green Road at the traffic lights just before Shirley Town Centre. This is the next major junction after the Robin Hood Island at Hall Green. Once on the Haslucks Green Road, continue straight on for (approx 2 miles) past the Colebrook Pub, past Shirley Railway Station & then the Drawbridge Pub is on the right at the bottom of the hill. For those of you with Sat Nav - B90 1DD

FOOD. A fantastic full & varied menu served all day (so the walkers don't need to panic). Bring along a buddy to join the Hash as there is an offer on at the pub where you can get
2 meals for only £7. Click Sample Menu (the food that you get is more colourful than it appears on the menu!).

DRINK (Down downs). A fine selection of Real Ales (& gassy beer for the heathens!) there will also be water (from tap not the canal) for the drivers.

Follow Up Interview - Les & Tweeny

Brief Description

The Hash House Harriers is the largest non-competitive running club in the world. Virtually all major cities throughout the world, on every continent have got a Hash club.

Hashing’, as it is known, involves running from a pub, following a trail of flour around a circular course for 5 miles or so and then returning to the pub for some refreshment & prizes!.
click pictures to enlarge

The trail followed is in the style of a paper chase, which the ‘hares’ set the day before. The ‘hounds’ follow the trail, which involves working as a team with the fitter runners checking out false routes while the slower ones catch up.

There are regular regroups, to pause for breath, enjoy the view or listen to some historical information about the area.

Hash events are always sociable, and suit virtually all levels of fitness as the flour trail enables everyone to run or walk at a speed they feel comfortable with.

Usually there is a small registration fee (about £2) that is used to purchase the 'prizes' (down downs) that are handed out at the pub when all competitors are back & have got themselves fed & watered. All first timers will get a 'prize', as well as all cheats & hares.
